QILA DIDAR SINGH is a historic and vibrant town located in the Gujranwala District of Punjab, Pakistan. With a rich history dating back to the 1700s, the town has grown into a significant local hub for trade, agriculture, and community life. Its name, which includes the word Qila (meaning fort), reflects its origins as a fortified settlement built around a large mansion and enclosed with gates and walls.
QILA DIDAR SINGH was founded in the 1790s by the Sikh Mann Sardars of Mughalchak. The land was given to Didar Singh, after whom the town is named, as a wedding gift. The interior part of the town was initially surrounded by walls and gates, resembling a small fort.
During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, British forces mistook it for a military fort. The townspeople convinced them it was a residential settlement, helping avoid conflict.
In 1947, after the partition of India, the Sikh and Hindu population of the town migrated to India, and Muslim migrants from East Punjab and Haryana settled here.
QILA DIDAR SINGH is situated 17 km west of Gujranwala on the Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road. It is well-connected to surrounding towns and villages and serves as a center for local commerce. It lies between Gujranwala and Hafizabad, making it easily accessible by road.
