Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab – Karachi, August 2025 has taken a major step towards sustainable mobility by introducing a green fleet of electric bikes (e-bikes) for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) employees. The initiative, launched at the KMC headquarters, aims to lower fuel dependency, cut costs, and reduce pollution while modernizing government transport services.
First Batch Rolled Out in Initial Phase
The first batch of 20 electric bicycles has been distributed among dispatch riders as part of the initial phase of the project. Mayor Wahab announced that the second phase will give priority to women staff, with a special fleet of “pink bikes” planned for female government employees to ensure safer and more inclusive commuting options.

Cost Savings Through Negotiated Price
Each bike, which carries a market price of around Rs 240,000, was acquired at a negotiated price of Rs 215,000 thanks to a private firm partnership. This not only highlights the financial efficiency of the program but also ensures significant fuel cost savings for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, alongside a measurable carbon emissions reduction.
Charging Stations and Smart Monitoring
To keep the green fleet running smoothly, charging stations have already been installed at the KMC headquarters, with plans to expand across Karachi. The project also features mobile app monitoring, allowing real-time oversight of bike usage and station performance, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
