A Historic and Thriving Town in Sindh
Matiari is a historic and culturally rich town located in the heart of Sindh, Pakistan. Known for its fertile lands, hardworking people, and a deep-rooted connection to agriculture, Matiari has grown into a key location for economic development and social progress. It has emerged as a vital hub for the sugar industry and other thriving sectors, making it one of the most dynamic districts in the province.
Matiari District was officially established to bring administrative efficiency and foster development in the region. With towns like Hala and Matiari playing a central role in shaping its identity, the district boasts a unique blend of culture, tradition, and progress. The area is widely recognized for producing large quantities of sugarcane, contributing significantly to the local and national economy.
One of the most notable industrial projects in the district is Matiari Sugar Mills Ltd. This mill was founded with the vision to bring economic opportunities to local farmers and reduce their dependence on faraway mills. Before the mill’s establishment, farmers had to transport sugarcane to other districts, facing uncertainty and losses.
Under the leadership of Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah (Late), the company was created to serve the local growers and uplift the community. The mill started with a crushing capacity of 2,000 tons per day, which has now expanded to 4,200 tons per day.

Despite initial financing obstacles and delays, Matiari Sugar Mills Ltd successfully overcame its difficulties. The total project cost escalated to Rs. 435.202 million, but the company managed to start production and even repaid its loans on time. It is now considered one of the most financially stable sugar mills in the region.
Matiari Sugar Mills focuses not only on profit but also on the welfare of the local community:
The company works closely with the State Bank of Pakistan to offer affordable loans to small and medium farmers.
These associated businesses strengthen the industrial and economic landscape of the Matiari district.
Matiari experiences a hot desert climate, with long summers and mild winters. The weather in Matiari is ideal for growing sugarcane, wheat, and other crops.
