The district administration of Rahim Yar Khan (RYK) has announced a local public holiday on October 1 to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Fareed, a revered Sufi saint and poet of Southern Punjab.
According to the official notification, government offices across RYK will remain closed on this day. The issued order emphasizes that the holiday is intended to allow citizens to participate in commemorative ceremonies and spiritual gatherings held at the saint’s shrine in Kot Mithan.

The administration has clarified that the holiday will not affect ongoing board examinations, banks, or federal institutions, which will continue their scheduled operations. Educational boards have also been advised to maintain normal schedules for students appearing in examinations.
The Urs of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Fareed is an important cultural and spiritual event in Southern Punjab, attracting thousands of devotees from RYK, neighboring districts, and other provinces. Activities during the Urs include poetry recitations, qawwali sessions, and spiritual gatherings, reflecting the saint’s teachings of love, harmony, and tolerance.
