World Bank Signs $47.9m Punjab Education Project

LAHORE – The World Bank has approved a $47.9 million grant to raise the level of education in Punjab so that access, quality, and resilience in early childhood and primary education are improved.

The project is anticipated to impact directly over 4 million children throughout the province, in addition to over 100,000 teachers and school officials. A high degree of priority has been given to serving marginalized learners, such as children with disabilities, those in non-formal education, and at-risk students who might be dropping out of school.

Major components of the program are increasing early childhood education, re-enrolling out-of-school children, and adding remedial learning support to enhance literacy and numeracy skills. Professional development and teacher training will also be a focus point to ensure that teachers possess the tools and necessary skills to address current classroom needs.
