Punjab Announces Increase in Vehicle Registration and Transfer Fee

The Punjab Government has announced a revision in vehicle registration and transfer fees, effective September 1, 2025. This change will increase the overall cost of purchasing and transferring vehicles across the province, directly impacting both buyers and sellers. While the move is aimed at boosting provincial revenue and strengthening regulatory processes, vehicle owners should prepare for higher upfront expenses in future transactions.

Major Updates

1. Fee Hike Effective September 1, 2025

  • Registration and transfer fees for all vehicle categories will increase from September 1.
  • Authorities have urged vehicle owners to complete registrations and transfers early to avoid higher costs.

2. Digital Registration System Launch

  • Each vehicle’s number plate will now be directly linked with the owner’s CNIC.
  • Sellers will have the option to retain their current plate number.
  • Buyers of used vehicles will be issued a new registration number.
  • Unused numbers can be reserved for up to two years.

3. Penalties for Delayed Transfers

  • If ownership is not transferred within one month, additional charges will apply.
  • Sellers are advised to report untransferred vehicles via helpline 1035.
  • In such cases, authorities may suspend registration to prevent misuse.

  • Motorcycles: Rs 550 → Rs 605
  • Cars (650–1000 cc): Rs 3,025 (+Rs 275)
  • Cars (1000–1800 cc): Rs 6,050 (+Rs 550)
  • Cars (>1800 cc): Rs 12,100 (+Rs 1,100)
  • HTVs: Rs 6,050 (+Rs 550)

Upcoming Budget Proposals (FY 2025–26 – Pending Approval)

  • Vehicles up to 1000 cc: Rs 1,200 → Rs 5,000
  • 1000–1800 cc: Rs 2,000 → Rs 11,000
  • Above 1800 cc: Rs 3,000 → Rs 22,000
  • HTVs: Rs 4,000 → Rs 11,000
