The MindsEye game, the debut title from ex-Rockstar president Leslie Benzies’ studio Build a Rocket Boy, launched on June 10, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC—but its release has been anything but smooth. Accusations of a smear campaign, last-minute executive departures, and reports of a bug-filled experience have overshadowed what was meant to be a major new action-adventure game. With no early review copies sent to critics, players are discovering the MindsEye gameplay for themselves, with mixed reactions.
Weeks before release, Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard claimed on Discord that negative comments about MindsEye were part of a “concerted effort” to damage the game, suggesting a rival (likely Rockstar) was behind it.
“It’s not wild when it’s true… doesn’t take much to guess who.” – Mark Gerhard, Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO
However, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak (publishing partner) dismissed the claim:
“I don’t believe that. The game should speak for itself.”
Just days before release, Chief Legal Officer Riley Graebner and CFO Paul Bland left the company—an unusual move that raised eyebrows.
Unlike most major releases, MindsEye did not provide early review copies, leaving players to judge the game post-launch. Xbox players also faced delays for a 16GB patch fixing stability and performance issues.

No, it’s a mission-based action-adventure with semi-open zones rather than a true open world like GTA.
It launched on June 10, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Yes, it includes powerful modding tools similar to Roblox or Dreams, letting players design and share their own missions.
The 16GB day-one patch (with bug fixes) wasn’t ready in time but has since been released.
