On Monday Night police arrested well known Muslim scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order. The arrest had taken place after officials from City Police Station acted on orders from the Deputy Commissioner of Jhelum. Following his arrest Mirza was sent to jail and his academy was closed by police.
This action came after reports were filed by several Muslim groups who demanded strong action against the researcher. The day before a group of Muslims met with district officials and asked them to take action.
Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza is popular on social media,especially on YouTube where he has over 3.1 million subscribers. He is famous for sharing his views on religious and social topics honestly which sometimes causes trouble.
This is not Mirza first arrest. In May 2020 he was also taken into arrest by Jhelum police under Section 153-A of the Pakistan Law Code. At that time he was arrested after a contentious lecture was posted online but was released two days later by court orders.
