Changan, through its joint venture Master Changan Motors Limited (MCML), is all set to make history with the launch of Pakistan’s first locally assembled REEV (Range-Extended Electric Vehicle), the Deepal S05, in November 2025. This marks a major milestone for the local auto industry and a significant step toward the adoption of clean mobility in the country.
What is the Deepal S05?
The Deepal S05 is a C-segment SUV built on an EV-first platform, meaning the electric motor is the primary driver of the wheels while a petrol engine charges the battery as a range extender. This setup provides the benefits of a hybrid driving experience without the range limitations of conventional EVs.
Changan claims that the Deepal S05 will deliver an impressive driving range of over 1,000 km, effectively eliminating “range anxiety,” one of the biggest concerns for EV buyers.

Design & Features of the Deepal S05
- Exterior: The Deepal S05 design comes from Klaus Zyciora, former head of design at Volkswagen Group, and the SUV has already won the prestigious iF Design Award for its styling.
- Dimensions: Among locally available C-segment SUVs, the Deepal S05 will reportedly offer the longest wheelbase, widest body, and the largest cabin space, making it a strong contender in terms of comfort and practicality.
- Interior: Although full details are yet to be revealed, the cabin is expected to emphasize spaciousness, premium design, and advanced infotainment technologies.
Why the Deepal S05 Matters
This launch is significant because:
- It will be Pakistan’s first REEV, bridging the gap between hybrid and pure electric vehicles.
- Local assembly starting November 2025 will help reduce prices compared to imported EVs and ensure better availability of after-sales service and spare parts.
- A 1,000+ km driving range makes the Deepal S05 a benchmark-setting SUV for Pakistan’s auto sector.
Current Status
The Deepal brand is already active in Pakistan. The Deepal S07 SUV and L07 sedan were introduced in 2024, achieving a sales milestone of more than 65,000 vehicles on road. Thanks to this success, Changan became the 3rd most-sold car brand in August 2025.
Now, with road testing underway, the Deepal S05 is moving closer to launch. MCML is positioning the SUV as a pioneer in Pakistan’s EV transition, and industry experts believe the model could significantly boost local EV adoption.
