Babarloi, also spelled Babarlo or Baberloi, is a historic village located in the Khairpur taluka of Khairpur District, Sindh, Pakistan. It is well known for its rich history, cultural significance, and postal services. With a population of 13,636 people in 2,409 households (as of 2017), Babarloi continues to hold importance in the region.
Babarloi has a deep historical background. It is famous for the dargah (shrine) of Makhdoom Pir Syed Rajan Qattaar Jahania, a Sufi saint who migrated from Uch Sharif to Sindh in the mid-19th century. His urs (annual death anniversary celebration) is held from 14th to 16th Shaban, drawing thousands of devotees who visit the shrine to offer prayers and make mannats (spiritual requests).
A unique tradition at this shrine involves devotees offering donkeys as a spiritual token. Since the saint was fond of riding donkeys, it has become customary for followers to donate donkeys in return for blessings. These donkeys are later sold, and the funds are used to maintain the shrine.
Babarloi is also historically associated with the Mughal emperor Humayun, who stayed in the region for about five to six months in 1542. The Tarkhan-Nama and Chach-Nama, two historical texts, mention Babarloi (Babarluka) as a place of gardens and a fortified settlement prepared for Humayun’s residence.
The 1951 census recorded Babarloi’s population as 2,760 people in approximately 650 houses. At that time, the village had a police station, post office, dispensary, and school, indicating its administrative importance in the region.
