New Academic Calendar and Holiday Schedule in the Works for Punjab Schools

LAHORE – The Punjab School Education Department on Thursday conducted an important meeting at the Civil Secretariat to address a uniform holiday schedule and provincial academic calendar for schools.

The session was held in accordance with the directions given by Justice Jawad Hassan of the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC). On August 27, the court considered a petition presented by student Danial Hassan that challenged the summer vacation extension. The judge ordered the department to prepare proper rules for declaring school holidays and to set up a year-round academic schedule.

Higher officials, such as the school education, special education, and law and parliamentary affairs secretaries, were present at the meeting, along with the Punjab Advocate General. The petitioner was represented by Advocate Hafiz Wawar Ahmed, too.

Key education leaders contributed to the conversation, including Mian Imran Masood, President of the Pakistan Education Council; Abrar Ahmed Khan, APSMA North President; and Nighat Ali, Executive Director of Lahore Grammar School. Ali Raza from Beaconhouse, Dr. Mariam Chughtai of the National Curriculum Council, and Umer Salamat of SICAS were also there, with representatives from other networks of private schools.

The main objective of the meeting was to achieve consistency in holidays, examinations, and academic timetables, keeping disturbances for students and parents to a bare minimum. Authorities confirmed that the final holiday plan and calendar will be issued in the next few weeks once consultations are finalized.
