KP Chief Minister saids

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has given officials a strict 6-day deadline to complete compensation payments for flood-affected families.
He ordered that:

  • Heirs of deceased persons should receive Rs2 million each.
  • Injured individuals should get Rs500,000 each.
  • Missing persons’ families must also be compensated.
  • Every flood-affected household will receive Rs100,000 for cleaning debris and water.

To speed up relief, Gandapur directed the Finance Department to release Rs5 billion to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Support for Homeless Families and Missing Victims

The KP government is also collecting data on homes destroyed near waterways after the recent Pakistan floods. Victims will be consulted for relocation to safer areas where new houses can be built. To support families displaced by the Pakistan floods, cash payments will replace non-food items in Bajaur. These steps aim to speed up rehabilitation and bring relief to those hardest hit by the Pakistan floods.

Health Emergency: Outbreaks of Diseases in KP

Doctors warn that post-flood diseases may kill more people than floods themselves.

  • Thousands of flood victims, especially children, are suffering from diarrhea, dengue, malaria, gastroenteritis, and skin infections.
  • Many survivors face severe trauma and stress disorders after losing their families, homes, and livelihoods.
  • Makeshift clinics and mental health teams have been deployed to provide urgent care.

Health experts stress the need for clean drinking water, hygiene supplies, and a prevention plan to stop outbreaks from becoming a second disaster.

24,000 People Moved in Punjab

In Punjab, authorities have already relocated over 24,000 people from low-lying areas near the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers.

  • A high-level flood warning has been issued for the Sutlej River.
  • The Ravi River also faces a medium-level flood threat.
  • Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has ordered immediate evacuations to save lives.

Glacial Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan

In Ghizer district of Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB), a sudden glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) has submerged villages.

  • Around 300 houses were damaged, while nearly 80% of Rawshan village was destroyed.
  • A 7 km-long artificial lake has cut off residents for days, blocking the Gilgit–Shandur Road.
  • Farmland, bridges, and roads have been washed away, leaving communities stranded.

This is the fourth major GLOF in the region this season, showing how rising temperatures are worsening Pakistan’s climate crisis.

Pakistan Floods Threat

Pakistan is among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries.

  • In 2022, record-breaking floods killed more than 1,700 people, displaced millions, and caused losses of $40 billion.
  • Each year, from June to September, monsoon rains trigger deadly floods, landslides, and displacement.

Experts warn that without strong disaster management, infrastructure planning, and climate resilience, Pakistan will continue to face massive losses.
